Importance of Medical 3D Printing Technology in Neurosurgery

Surgeon Şahin Hanalioğlu, one of the doctors of Ankara Dışkapı Training and Research Hospital, Department of Brain and Nerve Surgery, uses Medical 3D Printing technology in pre-surgical planning and prepares for his surgeries in a more controlled manner.

Dr. Hanalioğlu, working with BTech Innovation before a very risky surgery of a young female patient, met with our engineers to plan this surgery with 3D Printing technology.

From the patient’s 2D MR and CT images, a comprehensive study was carried out on the patient’s brain tumor, the nerves and arterial vessels with which the tumor is associated, 3D modeled radiological data, with field-specific software, long hours of detailed modeling and different image projections.

As a result of this detailed study before surgery, Dr. Hanalioğlu and his team successfully performed the operation, as they had the opportunity to visually study the case in 3D before the operation of the young patient. The patient, who regained his health after the operation, was taken to annual control follow-up by the clinic.
